Engineers at Nexteer Automotive will cycle 700km over four days to Paris to raise money for children’s charities
RÜSSELSHEIM, Germany – Cyclists from Rüsselsheim will embark on a 700km cycle over four days to raise money for two children’s charities. Manfred Gerken, François Roth and Régis Pfeiffer will leave their offices in Rüsselsheim on June 22 and cycle to their company’s headquarters in Villepinte near Paris.
On the first day the engineers from Nexteer Automotive will cycle 200km to Hermeskeil (Germany). The following day they will travel 185km across four different countries (Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium and France) to Verdun. On Sunday morning they continue across France for their last stop at Château-Thierry, a 190km ride. They will then be joined by colleagues on June 25 for the final 90km sprint to Paris.
“Travelling west will mean cycling into the prevailing westerly winds, making the ride even more challenging,” said François Roth. “The ride will be difficult; we have to carry our own food, water and spares and are covering an average of 175km a day. The charities we are supporting do an amazing job, so the money raised will make all our efforts worthwhile.”
The cycling team will divide the money raised equally between two charities. Kinderhilfe Bapatla supports children of the lowest social caste in India and provides them with access to schools and supports teenagers in their professional education. The Laafi charity provides help to children in Burkina Faso, West Africa, by sponsoring their education and giving them access to sport and culture.
“Everybody at Nexteer globally will be supporting François, Manfred and Régis,” said Laurent Bresson, Nexteer Automotive’s President and Chief Operating Officer. “We have a strong family spirit here at Nexteer and the company will do everything it can to support such a good cause. We’re all proud that three of our people are doing something so extraordinary to help raise money for children’s charities. We’re looking forward to welcoming them home.”
The team has already covered over 1,800km and raised around €10,000 in two previous charity cycle rides in 2010 and 2011. With support from Nexteer, local businesses, families and friends the team is aiming to raise much more money for their chosen charities this year.
The Rüsselsheim engineers want to raise as much money as possible. Please help them by including a link to their webpage in any coverage: www.charity-ride.eu.tc

The team will cover more than 700km and cross four countries as they cycle from Rüsselsheim, Germany to Tremblay, France.
