Nexteer Automotive’s active steering provides advanced functionality to electric power steering systems by means of torque overlay control. Subtle steering feedback and adjustments from torque overlay keep the driver “in the loop” and help maintain vehicle control.

The Nexteer Automotive active steering torque overlay solutions enable many potential capabilities when used in conjunction with a series of sensors such as vehicle speed sensors, driver state sensors and cameras.

These capabilities include:

  • Handling and “steering feel” enhancements such as active return, active damping and improved on-center feel
  • Disturbance management such as pull/drift compensation and reducing the effects of wind gusts
  • Driver assistance including guided and autonomous parking
  • Active safety including yaw stability assist, compensation when braking on uneven surfaces and lane keeping assist/departure warning
